Goals The main aims are to study 1) the effects of fishing on the size, structure, production and genetic features of perch, sander and pike stocks, 2) the effects of fishing of predatory fish on the ecosystem (other fishes, zoobenthos, zooplankton, and water quality), 3) the factors affecting the interactions between pike, perch and roach, 4) the effects of maternal size on the amount and quality of eggs and fry in perch and pike, and 5) different fishing methods and their selectivity and reliability in estimating population density and structure. Impact of research The project produces new procedures for sustainable fishing in Finnish lakes. These are useful for fisheries authorities and associations in practical fisheries management.
