Our nature is exhausted globally and our societies are often distanced from nature. We should think globally when developing new ways of living in nature friendly and healthy way. This new thinking should attract large parts of our societies. The eco-village concept could foster this rethinking. As an innovation, it provides different solutions to problems the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) societies face. Those problems relate to the use and distribution of resources, climate change and social life. Eco-villages are a real alternative to the often individualistic, consumerist and commodified systems of cities. They have the potential of teaching us how to live together on the land (again) in a genuinely more sustainable way. This is especially important given the climate crisis and resource shortages that we currently face. Eco-villages are creating low impact, environmentally harmonious living situations, pioneering nature friendly agriculture techniques as well as businesses and education centers.
