This project focuses on projection of climate change effects on the occurrence of emerging feed and food safety hazards in plant production and marine systems. The specific focus is on natural toxins, i.e. several key mycotoxins and phycotoxins, in cereal and shellfish production. It includes both the estimation of the occurrence of known toxins (re-emerging hazards) as well as relatively new toxins (emerging hazards). As specific case studies in cereal production, this is worked out for deoxynivalenol in wheat, aflatoxin in maize, and T-2 and HT-2 in oats. In shellfish production, this will be done for DSP and some other key compounds. Cause-effect relationships between climate change effects and the (re-)emerging toxins will be estimated.
