The bioavailability of nutrients in soils is dependent on their chemical form and sorption tendency. The chemical factors controlling these factors are studied in order to create a sound basis for improvement the utililization e.g. phosphorus reserves accumulated during decades in the soils as result of fertilizer and manure applications. The main goal is to reduce the requirement of fertilizer applications through enhancement of the cycling soil reserves. Also the ashing-induced changes in the availability of nutrients in wastewater sludge has been studied.
